2004 Nautiques Wakeboard X-Cup Boardsports Wake-Bender Results

It was a beautiful day at Bush’s Watersports Centre this past Saturday for the Boardsports Wake-Bender. All told 80 competitors and a few hundred spectators took part in making this event a huge success.

One of the highlights of the day had to be the wakeskate division, as Matt Sacchitiello took his first victory by throwing tons of technical tricks such as a switch 360 shuv-it, and a switch big spin. The reigning champion Neil Brown opted to shy away from the technical side of the sport and go as big as he could off of the obstacles on the course. The crowd let him know they appreciated it by getting on their feet as he jumped a good 30ft over the water ski jump, then attempting to go the same distance with a shuv-it. He sacrificed any chance for the podium by attempting these feats, but he didn’t seem to mind and neither did the crowd.

Another highlight was the Mens Outlaw division. After what was unanimously decided to be the toughest qualifying heat in X-Cup history, with every rider in heat 1 standing incredible passes. Kyle Rattray showed everyone why he is the overall point leader on the X-Cup circuit by going out there and standing a perfect pass with no hesitation. To top off his run, he finished with a Pete Rose and circled around for a mammoth corked 540 off the double up. The Outlaw division at the Boardsports Wake-Bender illustrated just how far Ontario Wakeboarding has come in the last year and goes to show you that the Provincial Championships in Haliburton this coming Saturday could be won be any of the competitors.
