One provocative lakefront setting. Two days of unparalleled
wakeboarding competition and extreme sports demonstration.
Three years as the province’s most exciting summer sports
festival and one of the country’s premier wakeboarding
events.
It all adds up to the fourth annual Coors Light Silver
Summer Throwdown in Portage la Prairie, Mb. — and there are
only 62 days until it all goes down.
Throwdown makes waves at Portage’s Island Park from Aug.
18-20 and the countdown is already on to what promises to be
one of the fiercest weekends to hit Manitoba this summer.
“We’re already getting anxious about this year’s event,”
says Throwdown coordinator Dan Martin. “This all started as
a small wakeboarding competition 3 years ago and it has just
taken off from there.”
In addition to the high-level Pro-Am Wakeboard competition,
this year’s edition of Throwdown also boasts a one-day arm
wrestling challenge, racing and demonstrations by Super X
Mini racers and SK8 Skates skateboarding team and the
perennially popular bronze bodies in the Silver Bullet
Bikini.
Hot DJs will be spinning all weekend long, providing a
soundtrack to the competitions, demonstrations and the
two-day Silver Bullet Beer Gardens — then the party reaches
it heights on Saturday night, when it moves in to Canad Inns
Portage la Prairie for the famed Silver Slam After-Party.
Organizers are constantly planning for ways to make the
weekend that much hotter and more details will be announced
in weeks to come.
Throwdown is a presentation of Coors Light, Portage
Watersports Club, Canad Inns, O’brien Wakeboards, Portage
Credit Uniton, and Winnipeg Watersports, suppliers of this
year’s official towboats – Tige and Malibu.
