Basecamp opens in Muskoka, A rider’s paradise close to home!

Basecamp.. We Have Your Rails (2008)!

I am sure that all of you out there that are partial to the sport of wakeboarding have been down to Florida to ride or at least considered making the trip. The draw to do this should not be a surprise to anyone in the rider community. Who wouldn’t want to go to a location where you can ride all year round in warm water, be surrounded by wakeboarding’s top pros and have the best facilities, rails and boats at your disposal? The only down side is that Florida is a good 1,690 km drive or a $350 dollar plane ticket. Not quite somewhere to venture for the day. Sure would be nice if there was somewhere closer to home to develop your riding skills...

…And know that I have led myself into my pitch perfectly, here it is… The Muskoka Militia in conjunction with Pride Marine Group, Nautique boats and Cabana board shops has created a riders paradise here in Muskoka for everyone’s use and benefit. The BASECAMP comes to all Canadian riders as a place to train, hang out, spend a week, slide, ride and experience the fun of the boarding lifestyle. Offering cottage rentals, weekly camp programs and drop in lessons, whatever wakeboarding experience you are looking for the Basecamp can fulfill it.

When creating the Basecamp the group of us sat down and banged out all of the things we would want at the camp as riders ourselves. The list below is what we came up with and what now exists for everyone attending the camp to enjoy.

Top level instructions – all of our instructors have taught for over 4 years and are established riders in Canada and we will have regular appearances by the Muskoka Militia riders such as Kyle Rattray and Chris Guard.

Fun first – We wanted to create an atmosphere where everyone can come and have fun, so the facility is set up with beginners along with pros in mind. We want everyone to feel comfortable and not intimidated.

Location – Can’t get better than right on the water in Muskoka 10 minutes outside of the party hub Port Carling.

Available to everyone – There are a lot of other camps in Ontario where you can wakeboard but not if you are over 17. The Basecamp has programs and weeks that cater to all ages, just girls, training specific weeks and much more.

Sick Boat – How does a brand new 2006 210 Team Edition Air Nautique sound. Sounds good to me.

Place to slide – This was one of the most important things for me. So we have a private slider lake 5 minutes from guest cabins. Check it out on the web site.

Super chill off water atmosphere - Trampoline, mini ramp, every FLF film ever made, foosball, ping pong, croquet, camp fires, fishing, hammocks, wake magazines and a great environment to relax with friends. I am here right now and I never want to leave.

If you live in Ontario or anywhere else for that matter, come out this summer and check it out. Everyone is invited.
