Coors Light Silver Summer Throwdown 2005

June 8, 2005
For Immediate Release:

From the 12th to 14th of August, the City of Portage la Prairie will host the third annual Coors Light Silver Summer Throwdown (referred to as Throwdown from this point forward).  Located in beautiful Island Park, Throwdown will, once again, offer spectators some of the most exciting extreme sports competition that Manitoba has seen to date.  Throwdown will include four competitions/demonstrations: Pro-Am wakeboarding comp,  armwrestling challenge, skateboarding demos, along with the crowd-favorite, bikini contest.  New for the 2005 event will be the addition of the Coors Light – Suzuki FMX Team which will be performing their high-flying stunts on Saturday, August 13.  Throwdown will feature competitors from across Central Canada as well as the Northern United States.

In addition to actual competition, Throwdown’s festivities will include the Silver Bullet Beer Garden, food services, marine and extreme sport merchandise showcased in our rider’s village, as well as on-site DJ’s.  On the night of Saturday, August 13th, Coors Light presents the Silver Slam After-Party featuring some of Manitoba’s hottest DJ’s and MC’s!

The event hours are as follows:

Friday, August 12th -            5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Saturday, August 13th -       9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Sunday, August 14th -         9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Each day of competition will include the participation of over 150 athletes competing for over $10,000 in cash and prizes.  Competition will feature several professional wakeboarders that are actively competing on the Professional Wakeboard Tour as well as riders from across Canada and the northern United States.  Several of Canada’s top-ranked Armwrestlers will gather in Portage la Prairie for Throwdown’s first-ever Armwrestling Challenge!

From day one, interest in The 2005 Coors Light Silver Summer Throwdown has been unrivaled.   Some of our larger sponsors include:  Tige boats of Winnipeg Watersports, Coors Light, Power 97, Canad Inns, the City of Portage la Prairie, Bonafide Clothing Company, Rona Building Center, Pro Image Signs, White’s Leisure Centre, Spy Optics, Emergency Rescue Response Services, BMG Sports, Obrien Wakeboards, Hyperlite Wakeboards, as well as many of the local pro-shops.  Based on our marketing campaign, we are expecting approximately 5,000 spectators for each day of competition.

As the organizers of this year’s event, we would like to extend our personal invitation to partake in the festivities.  Media exposure through your organization will increase public awareness of extreme sports in Manitoba and Canada.  Should you have any questions please contact Dan Martin via the email address or phone number below.  Additional information can be found on our website at www.throwdown.ca

I look forward to working with you.

Regards,

Dan Martin,

Event Coordinator
