The 10th annual Kelowna, Wood Lake, Ice Breaker went off
with out a hitch.
Well, not exactly... We got rained out on Saturday. It
was going to start at
7:00 on Sunday morning.
Sunday finally came and the sun was shinning and the
water was like glass. The water skiers where out on the
water doing there thing while the wakeboarders /
wakeskaters where signing up for the events. The event
was put on at the Lake Country ski and board club house
and they where using JD Wakeboard School's Mastercraft
X-2. We had a dock slider that you could slide for a
dock start and a 12 foot flat rail for the first day and
a 60 foot flat bar for the second day.
The boys and Girls where the first group to go on both
days. There where 4 competitors, 3 boys and 1 girl
(sorry I don't have the names) and they all impressed me
with some nice surf carves, wake jumps, ollies and even
the girl hit the 60 foot slider on the second day
(didn't land it but it was sick) In the end the 8 year
old took it all.
Next there was novice and there where 11 competitors
from all over. There where some big airs, grabs, 180s
and one rider (ME [Evan Park]) did the dock slider. Even
some riders had some attempts at doing 360s and blind
180s but no one could pull one off in the end. In the
end I won novice. Intermediate was next up and 13 year
ripper Danial Dyck took the field by pulling off some
sweet inverts to put everyone away. Steph McKnight won
women's 17+
Pro divison had some pretty sick riders in it like
Dustin O'Ferral, Jesse Schipfel and Matt Bibby. Jesse
had some sick stuff under his belt but unfortunately he
feel before he was able to pull some really big stuff
off. Matt Bibby was ripping it up bulling some huge
stuff but it wasn't enough to bet Dustin's ts off-axis 5
and his fs lip on the 60 foot slider.
Wakeskate was taken by James Balzer by pulling off some
smooth shuvs and
w2w tricks.
